Brecon Beacons Training Camp

Over the weekend a number of Solihull Triathlon Club members travelled to South Wales for a three-day training camp, consisting of some beautifully scenic cycling and running routes.

Day 1: Elspeth, Morgan, Abbie, Connor, Mark, Keith and Linda headed out for a 50mile/80km ride to Builth Wells. This ride consisted of over 1,426m (4,678ft) of climbing! This was supplemented by a well earned cafe stop in Bronllys before the final 20km back to base.

Adam, Morgan, Connor and Abbie then bravely opted for recovery runs (which may have involved stopping by the shops for snacks) to finish off the day, accompanied Linda’s homemade turkey chilli and rice for dinner (followed by some strawberry trifle)!

Day 2: The group split into two for Saturday; Adam, Morgan and Elspeth went on a 55mile/88km ride from Llanspyddid through Myddfai climbing over 1,478m (4,849ft). Connor, Abbie, Mark, Keith and Linda went on a 11.5mile/18.5km trail run over Brecon Beacons which had over 390m (1,286ft) of elevation, and some beautiful scenery. Both teams had their own well deserved cafe stop before finishing at the cottage and tucking into a lovely pub meal in the evening (followed by some more trifle).

Day 3: Day three was split again, with Adam championing Pen y Fan with a 12mile/20km run to the top and back, climbing 904m (2,966ft)! The rest of the group rode a shorter 30mile/50km relatively flat route (compared to the other two routes) finishing in Brecon where we all met for our final cafe stop before heading back to the Midlands.

Well done to all who cycled and ran over the weekend, thank you Head Coach Gareth for providing the beautiful scenic routes, and extra special thanks to Gareth’s mum who dropped round some lovely homemade Welsh cakes!
